Wellness Guide

Through nine editions of The Wellness Guide, Health Research for Action has worked with diverse communities to learn what is important to them and how they want to receive information. The guide covers a broad range of topics about everyday life, such as health care, exercise and nutrition, family life, finances, and employment.

Guides have been developed for California's Departments of Mental Health, Social Services, Child Abuse and Prevention Services; the state's Women, Infants and Children nutrition program (WIC); the University of California Office of the President; and the California Endowment.

Developed with an advisory group of disability leaders, the 8th edition of The Wellness Guide integrates information on accessibility and independent living in a resource distributed to over 300,000 Californians. It was developed in English and Spanish, as well as in the alternative formats of Braille, audiocassette, and CD.

The Chinese/English Wellness Guide was produced with an advisory group of Chinese-American professionals and over 23 focus groups with Chinese-speaking Californians. Its unique bilingual design was the result of repeated community testing. Over 100,000 guides were distributed.
