Environmental Health Tracking

How do contaminants in our environment affect our health? Can we stop potential damage before it happens? What can communities do to help? California's environmental health tracking program is helping to answer these questions.

The goal of environmental health tracking is to improve data collection so we can better understand the relationship between environment and disease. Better information will help us prevent known or potential harm.

The California Department of Public Health (Environmental Health Investigations Branch) is developing the California network. Health Research for Action is working with the Environmental Health Investigations Branch to advance policy changes essential to improve tracking, and to communicate with the public about the ways tracking data can be used. California is one of 17 states and localities to receive funding through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to establish a national network.
