The Parents Guide is a research-based, user-friendly resource for parents. It is based on best practices in health communication and health literacy. Over three million guides for families have been distributed nationwide. It was developed in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean, and distributed to new parents throughout California by the California Children and Families Commission.

Healthy Steps in Silicon Valley

"Healthy Steps in Silicon Valley" is an easy-to-read and easy-to-use guide to help people 50 and older become more active in their daily lives. The guide models a wide range of physical activities in the home and in the community. It also addresses many other aspects of health, including home safety and fall prevention, stress, and depression. It lists local fitness programs, community services, and health and social resources. Health Research for Action developed the guide with The Health Trust of Silicon Valley and with extensive formative and evaluative research with intended users.

The Wellness Guide

The Wellness Guide has shown effectiveness in reaching people of all income levels and many ethnicities. It was developed with extensive participatory research and uses best practices in health communication and health literacy. It was distributed to people throughout California. The eighth edition of the Wellness Guide (2004) integrates disability issues and was developed in English, Spanish, and Chinese, with a statewide advisory group of leaders in disability advocacy and focus groups with people with disabilities throughout the state.

Pennsylvania's Healthy Steps for Older Adults

The "Healthy Steps Guides" are part of the Pennsylvania Healthy Steps for Older Adults Program, a comprehensive fall-prevention and physical activity program developed with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, and implemented throughout Pennsylvania. The Healthy Steps guides, in English and Spanish, address home safety, fall prevention, health care, social engagement, and physical activity, in an attractive workbook that incorporates health literacy best practices for adults ages 50 and up.
