"The Alabama Guide for Families" is based on HRA’s Parent Guide model that has shown effectiveness in reaching parents of all income levels and many ethnicities. It uses best practices in health communication and health literacy. Over three million guides for families have been distributed nationwide. This guide was distributed to new parents throughout Alabama.
The guide is organized developmentally, so that parents can quickly find the information that is relevant to their child’s age, from birth to five years. It covers pregnancy, birth, child development, choosing childcare, and health and safety issues. Parents are linked to websites and toll-free phone numbers where they can find more information or assistance.
